Closed on Monday?? Why Monday is so important in the thrift store world.....

My favorite not-for-profit thrift store is closed on Mondays. For a good reason.

They are normally ran by a victim advocacy group. A place that helps people out of whatever situation life can sometimes deal them.
My particular one aids battered and abused women and children. I totally support that.
This thrift shoppe has only 1-2 paid employees. They have Sunday and Monday off. Days to rest before back in the grind.  A day to take care of their own business and rest their brain.

And then there is the volunteers. They are there for many reasons. To get out of the house. To support the cause. To belong somewhere. To make a difference.
A day off heads off burnout.

So the next time you are in a not-for-profit thrift store, give those volunteers a thank you. A thank you for donating your time.
I know they will appreciate it!

Books. Its all about #SecondhandFirst BOOKS!

This morning I was reading in FB land and in one of the blogs was a post about....you guessed it!  Books!!
Talking about books, my favorite thing!
And there was a linky-uppie thingy....

So....I will answer the questions about books.....and my first linky-uppie-thingy!

One book I am currently reading: Awaken The Giant Within - Tony Robbins

One book that changed my life: Grace Revolution  - Joseph Prince

One book that I would want on a desert island: The Bible (I could list others here..)

One book that I have read more than once: Cane River - Lalita Tademy

One book that I never finished: None laying around - I get rid of them!

One book that made me laugh: For the Love - Jen Hatmaker

One book that made me cry: Marley & Me - John Grogan (this has never happened before.....)

One book that is a waste of time:  Forest Gump - it is NOT the movie!!! ( I was actually shocked  - the movie does NOT match the book - movie is way better...)

One book I am re-reading: Jesus Calling

One book I have been meaning to read: The Friday Night Knitting Club - Kate Jacobs

One book everyone should read: The Love Revolution - Joyce Meyer

One book I think is horrible: ANYTHING by Nicholas Sparks - YUK!  (not happy - finds happy - gets happy - then dies) No.

Now....in the spirit of #SeconhandFirst - only ONE of these books besides my Bibles, were purchased at  full retail.
Grace Revolution by Joseph Prince.
The rest were all found at local thrift stores!

This is why I can love books!  I find books inexpensive and then learn something or just have brain candy - like Grisham novels,or Greg Iles - I am in the middle of Nachez Burning - excellent read.
There is others but we can save them for another blog post!

Happy Reading!!

#WhatItLooksLike

I love hash tags.

So today, I stopped by one of my favorite thrift shops and here is what happened....

For $11 I found 3 shirts. One is a Coldwater Creek  - very tailored, will be nice as soon as this heat breaks.
A long-sleeve fun top - wear as an undershirt.
A peace-sign scarf. I have to share this with Buttercup.

And a t-shirt with "graphics' on it. Now let me throw out the disclaimer here. I don't support anybody's anything. I don't pay a store to advertise their own shirt.  (Read: Aeropostle)
I don't " Support your local _____" Unless it is a cause I believe in.

Having said that. I love bees. And sparkly bees are even better. And telling the world to Bee Happy is like  way cool in my book. Yes, its dorky. But its my dorky and I own it.

When yoiu shop Secondhand First - you have more options and will have more items in your closet. One thing you will not have....is a department store credit card with a reeely high balance. And payments.

Inspiration found

In the past years frugality has not been a choice but a necessity. In order to survive. But I have discovered one really cool, or uncool to some, thing:  Shopping second hand for clothing. Now one may not have the "coolest" thing in the department store. And one may not have it "that day".
But the thrill of the hunt and the celebration of the find is worth it!

**There is a continuation of this post a'comin! I am making some notes and will be back later on.
(And with all uncool celebrations - I may have found what I have been looking for....)
